GRANTMAKING
  GrantCraft - Practical Wisdom for Grantmakers
This resource developed by the Ford Foundation offers practical wisdom from grantmakers on the tools and techniques of effective grantmaking. GrantCraft offers guides, videos, and case studies that present the practitioner's view of philanthropy.

Foundation in a Box
Foundation in a Box is a collaboration of almost 90 authors and publishers. The materials were evaluated and selected by a group of foundation managers and expert consultants under the coordination of the Association of Small Foundations. Full use available free to ASF members. Print and online versions are available to non-members by subscription.

Foundation Center's "Grantmakers and Best Practices: A Topical Resource List"
This annotated list of notable publications presents information about the management and "best practices" of foundations and other grantmaking organizations. The broad categories include general works, governance, management, grantmaking and evaluation.

GuideStar Donor Resources
Offers tips for donors on how to prepare, search, evaluate and give wisely.

NONPROFIT INFORMATION
 

American Institute of Philanthropy
The American Institute of Philanthropy is a charity watchdog and information service whose mission is to maximize the effectiveness of charitable contributions by providing donors with information to help them make more informed giving decisions. The site features a Charity Rating Guide (based on criteria such as "Percent Spent on Charitable Purpose" and "Cost to Raise $100") and a listing of "top-rated" groups in certain categories. Other features include Tips for Giving Wisely, a helpful-hints guide for getting the most for the dollars you donate; answers to frequently asked questions (FAQ); useful and interesting articles on a variety of topics relating to charitable giving; and a special alerts section for hot topics.

BBB Wise Giving Alliance
Formed in 2001 with the merger of the National Charities Information Bureau and the Council of Better Business Bureaus Foundation and its Philanthropic Advisory Service, the BBB Wise Giving Alliance reports on nationally soliciting charitable organizations that are the subject of donor inquiries.

Charity Navigator
The site contains information on over 1,700 charities nationwide based on IRS 990 forms, and evaluates the long-term sustainability of a nonprofit "based on the historical growth of its revenues and expenses.

GuideStar
GuideStar's searchable database contains entries for more than 80,000 U.S. nonprofit organizations. The site offers information on how to research nonprofits and tips for evaluating potential grantees.

IRS Publication 78 - List Of Tax Exempt Charities
This site provides a searchable directory of nonprofits and charities registered with the IRS as tax-exempt entities.

National Center for Charitable Statistics
The National Taxonomy of Exempt Entities (NTEE) was developed by NCCS during the 1980's with the collaboration of major nonprofit organizations and offers a definitive classification system for nonprofit organizations recognized as tax exempt under the Internal Revenue Code. The purpose of this classification system is: (1) facilitates the collection, tabulation, presentation, and analysis of data by the types of organizations and their activities; (2) promotes uniformity and comparability in the presentation of statistical and other data collected by various public and private agencies; and (3) provides better quality information as the basis for public policy debate and decision-making for the nonprofit sector and for society at large.

The Nonprofit Center at LaSalle University
The Nonprofit Center at La Salle University, a program of the University's School of Business Administration, works to strengthen the management and governance infrastructures of nonprofits throughout the Delaware Valley.

Pennsylvania Association of Nonprofit Organizations
PANO is the statewide membership organization serving and advancing the charitable nonprofit sector in Pennsylvania through leadership, advocacy, education and services.

Pennsylvania Bureau of Charitable Organizations
Part of the Department of State, the BCO administers the state's charitbable solicitation law. The site includes a searable database of all charitable organizations that are legally registered to solicity funds in the Pennsylvania.

NPowerPA
As a member of the national network of NPower organizations, the Philadelphia-based NPowerPA will provide technology training and consulting services to regional nonprofit organizations.

Tech Soup
Powered by CompuMentor, one of the nation's oldest and largest nonprofit technology assistance agencies, TechSoup.org offers nonprofits one-stop shopping for their technology needs. Offers informative articles and advice geared toward small to medium-sized nonprofit organizations.
